The Leadlight Method
The leadlight method, also known as leaded glass, is a traditional technique for creating decorative windows and panels. It involves assembling small pieces of glass, often stained or textured, into intricate patterns using lead cames—H-shaped strips that hold the glass pieces in place. The lead joints are soldered together to form a stable framework. Originating in medieval Europe, this method is renowned for its use in church windows, adding vibrant colors and detailed imagery. Besides aesthetic appeal, leadlighting allows for versatile designs, combining artistry with functional window construction, enhancing both historical and contemporary architectural settings.
