Workington Town Council Public Arts Trail Commission

Project type

Illustration, Local Authority Funded

Date

November 2024

Location

Workington, Cumbria, UK

Awarded one of 3 competitive council backed public art micro-commissions, to develop a piece of work celebrating the history and future of the West Cumbrian town of Workington. This was to be exhibited as part of their public co-produced arts trail to promote art and culture within the region, with the theme of 'Connections' of people and place. This was originally to run November 2024 through to February 2025. Due to it's popularity and with the agreement of the shops and public spaces hosting the work, the exhibition was the extended further into 2025.

Due to the size of the budget and short turn-around required for this project, the commissioners made it clear that the project brief was not for a completed or fabricated stained glass window, but for the 'cartoon' of a proposed design to be provided to them.
This was then to be scanned and printing onto a high resolution Canvas and sized at 1m2, and to be displayed in the entrance foyer / waiting area of Workington Train station, along side 2 other artists.

Title of piece: "Connections"
Size and composition : Created on 1m square canvas using acrylic paint. Then scanned to be hung.
