Inspired by the beautiful lake district wildflowers and plants described in Dorothy Wordsworth’s journals and poetry, come join us for a morning exploring the wonderful heritage craft of stained glass, with a contemporary twist!
This 4-hour workshop will introduce you to the process of the tiffany foiling method to create a small bouquet of unique flower and leaf stems in a vase for you to take home, as well as giving you the foundation skills to go on to create more pieces in the future should you wish!
Suitable for both complete beginners and those already experienced working with glass, all you need to bring is yourself and an open mind! Why not arrive slightly early for the workshop and go for a stroll through the Dove Cottage woodland to immerse yourself in the setting and gather ideas?
We will start the morning gaining inspiration from Dorothy’s words, as well as our stunning surroundings and examples of Cumbrian flowers, followed by a briefing covering the safety aspects of working with glass and aspects to consider when designing and choosing your colours.
After this, I will guide you through how to handle, cut and shape each individual piece of glass, wrap them in the copper foil and then join them to the stems, before applying a number of finishing touches such as wire, patina (darkening of the silver solder) or painted detail should you wish.
All tools, materials and safety equipment will be supplied. However, due to the nature of the craft, please can you ensure you are wearing closed shoes (no sandals, crocs or backless) and that long hair is tied back. If you wear reading glasses, it is also advisable to bring these for the close detail work!!
As the soldering process does involve lead based products, it is not advisable for pregnant women to attend and children between the ages of 16 & 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
On-site parking for those attending the workshop is free, and light refreshments will be provided over the 4 hours. We will also stop for a 30 minute lunch break midway through the session, so please bring a packed lunch or alternatively, food is available to purchase at the Wordsworth Grasmere café.
Booking is directly through the Wordworth Grasmere Trust via this link:
https://www.trybooking.com/uk/DVNA
This class is limited to a maximum of 5 students, to ensure the optimal time for questions, discussion and one-to-one support as well as allowing each participant individual access to top of the range tools. The workshop will also be being advertised by Wordworth Grasmere as of the end of September via their website, so move fast if you would like a place!!
If this session is fully booked, please contact me directly at info@NorthLakesStainedGlass.co.uk if you would like to be added to the waiting list or informed of future sessions.
