Learn about me, my life in the Lakes and what inspired me to turn my passion for stained glass into more than just a hobby!
Stained glass design, fabrication and restoration services, based in the heart of the English Lake District.
With over 30 years experience as a glass artist, Kate has been creating hand-crafted pieces using both the traditional Tiffany foiling and lead ed techniques in a wide variety of settings and formally established North Lakes Stained Glass in 2021, after moving to the stunning UNESCO national park in Cumbria from Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
Inspiration is taken from natural forms and the outdoor environment, and our pieces aim to play with the natural beauty of antique & modern glass and combine this with unique design & heritage techniques to create emotive items that reflect our passion for the craft.
Bespoke commissions are also welcomed, in both contemporary and traditional designs.
We are proud to say we are also members of the UK Contemporary Glass Society & The Eden Valley Artistic Network, based here in Cumbria.

As well as the items exhibited in galleries around Cumbria and available via our online store, we welcome both made-to-order requests of any of our previous work, and also bespoke commission work in a variety of styles. Follow this link to discover more........
As well as fabricating items from scratch, I also love breathing new life & extending the life of existing pieces. This can be anything from re-leading architectural windows & in-situ repairs through to replacing cracked pieces or securing loosened ornaments! Here are some examples of previous 'before & after' repair projects.
The art of stained glass design and fabrication dates back hundreds of years, and many of the processes and techniques used are the same today as they were originally. Sadly, this heritage craft is now at risk of dying out, officially placed on the art council 'endangered' list in 2023.
